Flipped Classroom
For Lesson 6 - Overview of Waves, students will be introduced to the idea of flipped classroom. The idea of flipped classroom is that students learn the concepts before coming to class, so the time used in the classroom is used for the materials or activities that can be utilized better with the presence of instructor. The traditional way of education is teacher would give a lecture about the content to students, and the students go home to do homework or work on problems. Instead of doing homework at home, students would watch or listen to the lecture at home, and do "homework" at school. For instructor's help can be utilized better when working problems rather than listening to the lecture, flipped classroom allow students to make a better use of their time to maximize their learning opportunity. Additionally, this is a great differentiated instruction because students can learn the material in their own pace because if they miss some parts of the lecture, they can go back and watch the part again. They could pause the video to take notes or mark the important concepts as well. The video that will be used in lesson 6 is the video named "Amplitude, Period, Frequency and Wavelength of Periodic Waves." The video can be found here. This video is a great introduction to the overview of waves. As this video is used for the lesson, the class time can be used to work on the worksheet or ask questions that are not clear the students.
